Keep in mind that laptop technology changes every two years or so; so, purchase a laptop that can be easily upgraded… but as they become cheaper, buying a new one every two years is sometimes worth it than going through the hassle to just bridge you to that next inevitable purchase in a few years anyway.

Get the latest and make sure it is upgradable. Upgrading should not be problem; I can’t think of any brands that don’t allow this.
I like/recommend:
NVIDIA, ATi Mobility Radeon 9700, Intel’s Graphics Media, or ATi’s Mobility FireGL V3200.

Freezing up should not be a problem anymore, but still I highly recommend that you buy as much RAM as your budget allows as a solid laptop for gamer will eat up RAM and who knows what game you may purchase around the corner.
I would say as least 256MB… at least. It is not uncommon to see 2GB of RAM now and like I said, you may want to run several applications down the road that you are not even thinking about now.
As a side note: Video RAM or VRAM is memory dedicated to handling the visuals and graphics on your notebook or laptop computer which is another consideration if you want to play the latest HD and 3D video games on your laptop. It is different than plain old RAM and costs more, but can be accessed by two different devices at the same time so it can update the screens graphics while processing new data…. thus a better graphic experience.

You need the fastest computer money can buy. Period!

CPU or Central Processing Unit, you probably know it as the processor! It’s the heart or rather the brain of your notebook or computer. It does all your computer’s data processing and applications. Since it does most of the work, it’s usually the most expensive part of your notebook computer.
Get SATA! Get at least 2.4GHz or more.
Laptop DISPLAY for Gamer
You need the sharpest, brightest display screen or forget everything I’ve said here and go buy a Nintendo. Must be able to handle 3D gaming. Get wide-screen. Resolution – more dots the better.
